The Map of Love | 1939, signed Dylan Thomas first edition.

£3,500.00 GBP

First edition, first impression. One of only 1,000 copies printed and one of very few signed. Signed by Dylan Thomas on the half-title. This collection includes 16 poems and 7 short stories, many of which first appeared in periodicals between 1934 and 1939, including When all my Five and Country Senses see, After the Funeral, Not from this Anger, and The Mouse and the Woman.

First issue, bound in fine-grained purple cloth with Dent blind-stamped on the spine and gilt lettering to the front board. A very good copy, the binding firm with light rubbing to the extremities. The contents are clean, with no inscriptions or markings beyond the author’s signature.

The original dust jacket is present, unclipped, and well-preserved, with chipping to the spine ends but otherwise in very good condition. Signed copies are exceedingly scarce, making this an exceptional collector’s piece from one of the 20th century’s most celebrated poets.

Published by J. M. Dent & Sons, London, 1939.

Oliver sold a book for me recently and the process couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Bayliss rare books are great to deal with and thanks to Oliver’s experience and salesmanship I was very happy with the final deal.
Highly professional service, extremely knowledgeable and easy to deal with, he's a collector first and foremost and you can see he cares.
Repeat customer. I've bought 4 books now from Oliver. Extremely knowledgeable in his field, he always has really interesting pieces in stock. He has hand delivered 2 of the books I have bought and sent the other 2 out by post. Would highly recommend.
