Dracula | 1981, signed Andy Warhol offset lithographic print from the 'Myths' Series

£850.00 GBP

Andy Warhol’s Dracula reinterprets the legendary vampire as a menacing, larger-than-life pop icon, blending horror with his signature exploration of fame and mythology. The enduring popularity of Bram Stoker's Dracula is undeniable, with the character passing through generations and evolving with slight revisions over time. Warhol’s print captures Dracula in a more aggressive pose, facing the viewer head-on, fangs bared as if ready to strike. Warhol’s interest in Dracula extended beyond visual art; he even created the film Blood for Dracula (1974) before his Myths series, demonstrating a special fascination with the figure. Part of his Myths series, Dracula reflects Warhol’s ability to transform even the darkest figures into symbols of commercialized nostalgia, reinforcing his enduring preoccupation with the power of the image.

This piece is an offset lithographic color print on card, signed in white marker pen and stamped “Andy Warhol” on the verso. Published in 1981 in collaboration with Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, New York, it measures 17.8 x 17.8 cm. These prints were originally produced as promotional cards for Warhol’s Myths series rather than as formal limited editions, making signed examples particularly scarce.
